A Port Charlotte man who was arrested Thursday night on multiple traffic, drug and burglary charges was charged Friday afternoon with additional burglary and theft charges.

Antonio D. Cuyler, 37, of 1393 Yorkshire Street in Port Charlotte, was arrested late Thursday September 5 after the truck he was driving crashed while he was allegedly trying to elude deputies. The truck was identified by a witness as the same one seen in the area of an attempted vehicle burglary in the area of the 1200 block of Yorkshire Street. Cuyler was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was arrested on a variety of charges, including the vehicle burglary.

Beginning early Friday morning, the Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls from other residents in Port Charlotte that found their vehicles had been broken into overnight. A total of seven other complaints were received. In most of the cases, the vehicles had evidence of pry-marks and broken windows. In one instance, another witness saw a truck similar to the one Cuyler had been driving in the area of the burglary.

By Friday afternoon, detectives had enough evidence to connect Cuyler to the other seven vehicle burglaries. He was charged with seven additional counts of Burglary to a Conveyance and two counts of petit theft. He is being held at the Charlotte County Jail on a total $119,000 bond.
