Thanks to heavy rain over the past few days, a number of wastewater overflows were recorded in the City of Venice. City officials say 16 manholes overflowed due to increased pressure within the wastewater collection system. Overflows were reported on the island of Venice, Eastgate, and Bay Indies. Crews say all wastewater overflows have ended, and the city is now beginning the cleanup process. Over the course of the past week, they say wastewater also made its way into Hatchett Creek and Flamingo Ditch. Both are now being tested for bacteria, but -as of now- there are no boil water orders in effect.
