Many citizens in our area will hold tributes to remember and honor the victims of 9/11, and the first responders that lost their lives in the terrorist attack.

ARCADIA• A 9/11 Celebration Ceremony is set for DeSoto County at the DeSoto County Courthouse. It takes place starting at 9 a.m. Monday.
NORTH PORT• The North Port Fire Rescue and North Port Police hosts the annual Patriot Day Service at 6 p.m. Monday, east of Fire Station 81 at 4980 City Center Blvd.

The North Port Fire Rescue Honor Guard also presents the 13th annual Remember the Fallen Memorial 5K Run starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the George Mullen Activity Center, 1602 Kramer Way. The race is 3.1 miles. Sign up through runsignup.com and searching the race title “Remember the Fallen 5K Memorial Run.”

ENGLEWOOD• The Englewood Chamber of Commerce hosts a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Dignam Family Stage, Pioneer Plaza, 345 W. Dearborn St.

WELLEN PARKThe State College of Florida’s Student Veterans of America and the Veteran Services will hold a memorial ceremony in its Southeast Parking Lot, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. The event is at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

VENICE• A 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony takes place at 11 a.m. Monday at Patriots Park, 800 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice. At Patriots Park, there is a beam from the World Trade Center wreckage along with rubble from the Pentagon.

PUNTA GORDA• For the month of September, the Military Heritage Museum will have a special exhibit titled “Forever Changed: 9/11 & The Global War on Terror,” to commemorate the victims and fallen heroes.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays at 900 W. Marion Ave. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for veterans and $9 for youth.
