The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Raul Castro, DOB 9/9/64, 3680 Egerton Circle, Sarasota, and charged him with one count of Kidnapping and one count of Sexual Battery.
Detectives say a 24-year old woman reported that Castro let her use his cell phone and then agreed to give her a ride home from a shopping center on Cattlemen Road on Thursday, December 22nd around 4:30 p.m. Castro told her he had to stop at his residence on the way, but instead the victim reported Castro threatened her with a machete and forced her into his home. The victim said she was kept there against her will and sexually battered until 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 23rd when Castro became distracted and she was able to escape.
Detectives obtained a warrant for Castro’s arrest and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team took Castro into custody at 3:00 a.m. this morning.
Castro has been booked into the Sarasota County Jail and is being held on $200,000 bond.
