The Venice High School Indians won the football state championship over the weekend in Class 7A by beating Bartram Trail of St. Johns 37-24. The Indians got out to a 31-point second half lead, and put the game in cruise control the rest of the way. The Indians were led by QB Bryce Carpenter, who carried the ball 40 times for 214 yards and four touchdowns. He also passed for 180 yards in the win. It’s Venice’s first state title since 2000.
