A phone scam that started in Sarasota could spread and police are warning residents that phone calls are being made asking for money. The persons making the phone calls are asking for personal information, as well as money. The act is called spoofing and is used who a person deliberately alters information sent to your called ID. In This instance, the information looks as if it is coming from the police department. Police are warning residents that they never solicit information over the phone.
