Starting next month, Allegiant Air will begin some new flights to and from Punta Gorda. In October, the budget airline will be adding nonstops to Rochester and Newburgh, New York, Milwaukee, Flint, Michigan and St. Cloud, Minnesota, all on the airline’s new Airbus A320s. Just five years ago, Allegiant ran about 1,000 flights in and out of Charlotte County Airport. Last year, that number had increased by more than 750 percent. More than 7500 flights landed and departed Punta Gorda. The new destinations mean travelers will now have non-stop service to 39 cities. Last year, more than 1.2 million passengers traveled through the airport, an increase of more than 32 percent- the largest year over year growth of any of the United States’ 200 busiest airports.
