A fiber optic line that was somehow damaged led to problems throughout Sarasota County schools Tuesday. All schools in Venice, Englewood and North Port were affected. The issue caused email and phone problems, but no word on how the line was cut has been mentioned yet. Usually construction or a traffic accident is to blame. It also affected the meal system in parts of the district. School officials said if students were unable to access their meal cards, they would be provided lunch anyway.
