A five-year veteran of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department has resigned his position as a deputy after being charged with battery. 39-year-old Steven Buckel is accused by a 17-year-old girl of touching her inappropriately and without consent. The event took place Aug. 7th while the girl was on a beach in Venice. He also obtained her phone number and sent various text messages to the girl. The Venice Police Department found enough evidence to charge the man with battery.
