As growth at Punta Gorda’s airport continues to skyrocket, nearby Sarasota-Bradenton International is trying to catch up. Airport Director Rick Piccolo told ABC-7 that all of Sarasota’s seasonal flights- to and from Boston, Chicago, Detroit, and Newark- will be starting a month earlier than usual. Piccolo lamented that SRQ is caught in an odd place- too small to compete with Tampa, and unable to attract the ultra-low-cost carriers (ULCC’s) like Frontier and Allegiant.
