Two areas in Venice have been labeled ‘no swim’ areas due to a high amount of enterococcus bacteria. Beaches at Service Club Park at 1190 Harbor Drive and the Venice Fishing Pier at 1600 Harbor Drive S. are closed for swimming due to the bacteria found during water quality testing.
The beaches remain open but swimming is not recommended. That type of bacteria can come from a variety of sources, including pet waste, wildlife, storm water runoff, and human sewage. The city determined Thursday that the bacteria came from natural causes.
