Some good news for homeowners in Sarasota and Manatee Counties…those who have homeowners insurance with Citizens Property Insurance could see their annual premiums drop by more than 2 percent if the company is approved for new rates. Citizens put in a request with the state insurer’s board Tuesday to drop multi-peril policies by 2.2%. If approved by state regulators, the statewide residential rate increases will average 5.3 percent, but because each policy is based on the homeowner’s risk, no one pays exactly the average. For example, rates in south Florida- specifically Miami-Dade and Broward Counties- would increase by 10 percent.
