North Port’s City Attorney could be out of a job by Tuesday. Mayor Linda Yates sent an email this week indicating she wants to fire Mark Moriarty, and plans to ask the other four members of the City Commission to dismiss him at their Tuesday meeting. In an email to interim City Manager Peter Lear, Yates asked that “discussion and possible action on ending Moriarty’s employment agreement” be placed on the agenda. She wants to terminate Moriarty’s contract without cause. His tenure hasn’t been without controversy. Recently, the board was less than pleased with a licensing agreement with the Braves over the planned spring training complex. Three months earlier, the commission complains about his interest in serving on a serving on a state constitutional revision board.
