The City of Punta Gorda settles a lawsuit brought by a man accusing a police officer and a K-9 of being too aggressive when he was stopped for riding his bike without a helmet.
WBBH reports plaintiff Richard Schumacher will receive $70,000 and both he and the city deny any wrongdoing.
Schumacher’s attorney says he was in the hospital for 11 days recovering from wounds inflicted by the dog.
The K-9’s handler is currently on paid administrative leave after being involved in a fatal shooting last August.
