Schools of fish off the coast near Sarasota have died from seasonal red tide.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission last week recorded high levels of red tide in Gulf Coast waters just south of Tampa Bay, and off the coasts of Manatee and Sarasota counties.

FWC officials say small fish and eels died over the weekend at Lido Key, among other places.

They expect the red tide to pass over the next few days.
