There are early signs that merging the Venice and Sarasota County fire department’s might be a good move financially. The Herald-Tribune reports Venice City Manager Ed Lavellee told council members this week that a very basic review of the numbers by city and county staff determined that county run department would cost $300,000 less to run; and cut, according to Mayor John Holic, close to $6-million from the city budget.
