The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says a donation from its school resource officers and some Wal-Mart employees has helped students receive school supplies.

The store employees last week gave the sheriff $2,000 in backpacks, notebooks, binders, paper, pens, pencils, and markers.

The supplies go to the school resource officers at their posts. They now give them to students who cannot afford to buy them.

The sheriff’s office says the idea for all this came from one of its volunteers. Tim Lundberg also happens to work at Wal-Mart’s distribution center in DeSoto Coujnty. He approached his group about a fundraising project, and eventually several hundred people helped buy the items for it.
