Safe Choices Security’s named Punta Gorda one of the 20-safest places to live in Florida. A city spokesperson says Safe Choices compared 2012 FBI crime statistics, including both property and violent crimes, of more than 300 cities in Florida to determine its list of the 20 safest. With a population of 17,000, Punta Gorda ranked #8, with .65 violent crimes per 1000, and 16.43 property crimes per 1000. North Port came in 13th on the top 20 list. It’s population is 58,000 with 2.22violentt crimes per 1000, and 18.34 property crimes per 1000.
