People in Venice next month seek to set records for life jackets.

On May 17, residents hope to break the mark for most life jackets worn, as well as inflatable ones inflated.

Organizers hope to not only promote the options life jackets present, but also help the public how they can make boating safer.

The police department hosts this event at the Marina Park boat ramp.

This type of event — “Ready, Set, Wear It!” — takes place throughout the country that day. It ushers in National Safe Boating Week, and it plays a role in the North American Safe Boating Campaign. The campaign brings together boating safety parnters worldwide to promote safe and responsible boating.
