Sarasota County’s won national awards for the design and development of Nathan Benderson Park and the economic development potential it brings for sports tourism. The Herald-Tribune reports the county been designated a “co-winner” of the 2013 American Planning Association’s Hunter Award, which is based on excellence in economic development. The county’s also won the 2013 Award of Merit, based on work with Benderson Development in developing a rowing center and surrounding park area. World rowing representatives were recently here to meet county officials about their bid for the 2017 World Rowing Championships.
