If you’ve seen a recent campaign mailer supporting an amendment that would split the jobs of Sarasota auditor and clerk, you might have gotten the impression from a City logo on the piece that the city supports the idea. The fact is, city officials have not taken a position on the matter. They accuse the PAC that produced the mailer of violating voters’ trust by misusing the city logo. The group says the logo use was nothing more than helping voters identify the mailer had to do with a city issue. Because the logo is not copyrighted, it appears the use is not illegal…only misleading, according to city officials.
