The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement for a moderate rip current risk. Forecasters say west to southwest flow over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is producing choppy waves and dangerous rip currents. Beachgoers are reminded to swim near lifeguards and head the advice of the beach patrol at unguarded beaches and near piers, jetties or inlets. Swimmers are being warned to stay in knee deep water and use caution. If you are caught in a rip current, do not panic and swim parallel to the shoreline until you get out of the current.
