Longboat Key officials say the town’s police chief died yesterday afternoon while he was on vacation in North Carolina. Authorities in North Carolina have not yet released the details of the motorcycle crash that killed 62-year old Al Hogle, but the chief’s death was announced by Town Manager David Bullock in an email to employees and the media about 4:45 yesterday afternoon. Hogle had served as Longboat Key police chief since December 2002 and has been involved in area Law Enforcement and politics since the 1970’s.
