Today is April 16th and normally, this would be the day after your Florida and federal income tax returns are due. But since the traditional filing deadline of April 15th fell on a Sunday, FLorida and the federal government are giving you extra time to file. And not just one day but two. The tax filing deadline is now midnight tomorrow. Why TWO days? Because today is Emancipation Day, commemorating Abraham Lincoln’s 1862 signing of a measure outlawing slavery in the District of Columbia. Emancipation Day isn’t celebrated many places BUT it IS a holiday in D-C. Which is why you have until tomorrow night to file.
