Its fitting that Don Platt’s daughters talked about him this week at Royal Palm Marina — he’s the one who built it. Don Platt died on Monday, as his daughters Midge Orren and Tammy Birdsong said, peacefully. Don was responsible for building a lot more than just that Marina, there are those who would tell you he built Englewood. Straight from his obituary, the Pioneer Picnic was a favorite event he started to get all the generations together to enjoy fellowship, good food and lasting memories. We’ll tell you more stories about Don this week, but for now remind you that a memorial service in Don’s honor will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 14 — where else? At Royal Palm Marina!
