A collective sigh of relief from Sun Coast fruit and vegetable farmers as warmer weather moves into the region. The recent cold snap, which sent overnight temperatures to near freezing and wind chills into the twenties, had growers scrambling to protect plants from the cold and frost. Indications now are that some leaf damage was experienced but nothing catastrophic. Many growers are waiting to see if leaves blacken and fruit falls from plants but most now say they came through the cold spell in relatively good shape.
