If you build it, will they staff it? That’s the question airport authorities in Punta Gorda are asking today after more questions have arisen about when Federal Aviation Administration funding for air traffic controllers will come through. The Punta Gorda airport recently completed construction of a new four-million-dollar air traffic control tower. Airport officials had expected that the F-A-A would then come up with money to pay for additional controllers to staff the new tower. So far, though, those funds haven’t appeared. With continuing questions about the federal budget and F-A-A funds in particular, it isn’t known when that new tower will be fully staffed.
