An ongoing rash of prescription drug abuse in the Sun Coast has moved Charlotte County Commissioners to issue new curbs on so-called “pill mills” in the county. They’ve now passed an ordinance that opens up pain clinics to county inspections and records audits. A moratorium on opening any new pain clinics in the county has expired and this measure is designed as the next step. Commissioners hoping the move will help control medical firms that function, essentially, as prescription-writing machines in Charlotte County.
