Today is the day the hands-free texting ban goes into effect for school and construction zones.

Drivers need to be hands-free of any type of wireless device in active school and construction zones. Through the end of the year, law enforcement will give drivers verbal or written warnings. That will change on January 1, 2020, and it will cost you at least $60.

The same law also makes it a second-degree felony to harm or kill any police, fire or search-and-rescue dogs or police horses. Offenders could face up to 15 years in prison.
