
UPDATE:
A man sought for allegedly striking a North Port Police officer with his vehicle is now in custody.
Debahj Grant, 23, of Punta Gorda, is in Sarasota County Jail, according to a social media message from North Port Police.
“Mr. Grant is currently in the Sarasota County Jail with no bond,” North Port Police Public Information Officer Josh Taylor stated Wednesday. “He turned himself in early this morning.”

The North Port Police Department is actively searching for 23-year-old Debahj Grant, who is wanted for Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and other charges. The incident occurred during a traffic stop Monday night on Price Blvd. near Purdue St., where Grant allegedly reversed his vehicle, pinning an officer between the door frame before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the officer sustained no serious injuries.
Authorities located Grant’s abandoned vehicle shortly after the incident. K-9 units and the Drone Team have been deployed, and there is a significant police presence in the area of Napoleon Rd. and Amnesty Dr.
Grant is described as a 6-foot-tall Black male, weighing 155 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes, and was last seen wearing glasses. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
