Pedestrian Fatality on US 41 in Port Charlotte: Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene

On Tuesday June 25th on US 41 near Main Street in Port Charlotte a 23-year-old male pedestrian from Port Charlotte, traveling on a skateboard in the bicycle lane, was struck by a sedan driven by a 47-year-old male from Punta Gorda. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the sedan, identified as Brian Luis Arce, initially stopped and exited the vehicle but then reentered and fled. State Troopers, assisted by the Punta Gorda Police Department and Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, later apprehended Arce at a 7-11 gas station located at 3139 US 41 in Punta Gorda.

The vehicle, a 2020 Honda Civic, was impounded, and Arce was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
