88 Live Piano Bar in Bradenton was standing room only on October 27, when 26 female singers from across the Suncoast took the stage for a four-hour benefit concert. The show, part of the Women Who Rock the Suncoast series founded by bandleader Kurt Kiehnle, charged $20 admission and added raffles and an auction on top. When the numbers were counted, the night had raised $8,000, and 100 percent of it went to My Breast Friends 941.
That nonprofit, led by breast cancer survivor Susan Harrigan, focuses on the practical burdens that come with treatment. The organization provides house cleaning, grocery and Uber gift cards, and peer support groups for patients and families in the 941 area. For many households, those everyday costs and logistics are just as pressing as medical bills, and that’s exactly the gap My Breast Friends 941 was built to fill.
The timing mattered too. The concert landed during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, turning a night of local music into direct community aid. Performers included Luna Akire, Miranda Becker, Julia Brown, and Dana DCX, backed by the venue’s house musicians. It’s a reminder that the Suncoast’s arts scene and its charitable heart often show up in the same room. Have you ever been to a local benefit show that raised money for a cause close to your heart?
