A woman critically injured when a tree branch struck a horse-drawn wagon at Lazy 5 Ranch in Mooresville, North Carolina on October 17 has died, according to her son, Eddie Quesenberry. The ranch previously said the branch fell on the wagon, causing the horses to jump and three people to fall and be hospitalized. Quesenberry said his mother suffered serious head trauma, and his aunt was also seriously injured in the incident.
Quesenberry announced his mother’s death in a Facebook post on Thursday, noting that she was an organ donor. “It made him happy knowing that, even in their darkest moment, her love and generosity could bring hope to others,” he shared. A GoFundMe has been established to help the family with medical expenses. Lazy 5 Ranch, a privately owned drive-thru safari and petting zoo, has not responded to WBTV’s request for comment on the incident.
The story has resonated across the Suncoast, where drive-thru safaris and animal parks are staples of family road trips and weekend outings. Questions about wagon operations, tree maintenance, and attraction safety remain unanswered by the ranch. If you’ve visited Lazy 5 Ranch or a similar park, what safety measures do you look for before booking a ride?
