Police are investigating the Wednesday afternoon death of a woman at Siesta Key. According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, beachgoers found a woman floating face down in the water on Point of Rocks Beach around 2 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies say lifeguards and first responders were notified and began lifesaving attempts to no avail. A preliminary investigation showed the woman was snorkeling with her husband when the incident took place. Her death has been classified as a drowning, but an official cause of death has not yet been determined.
