Western Michigan’s new facility at the Punta Gorda Airport may soon expand into more than just aviation. The university is working in conjunction with the county and nearby Fat Point Brewery to offer students a bachelor’s degree in sustainable brewing. Fat Point founder William Frazer told WINK that as microbreweries and craft beer become more and more popular, there’s a demand for qualified workers in the industry. If it’s approved, it will be the first of its kind in Florida. The county is asking the state for $500,000 to help with initial costs.
