White House Press Secretary Out After Three Days and One Briefing

Katie Zacharia’s time as White House press secretary lasted three days. Her first briefing ran 14 minutes and took questions from three outlets. By the end of the week, she was transitioning out of the role, according to reporting from MySuncoast.

The exit followed scrutiny on two fronts. Conservative media figures criticized her briefing performance, and she faced backlash for describing herself as a lawyer despite failing the bar exam. President Trump acknowledged the rough coverage, saying he told her, “Katie, you know, you don’t have to do this if you don’t want.” He added that when she said the job was tougher than expected, he replied, “Welcome to the world of Trump.” Zacharia is expected to remain in the administration in some capacity, and no successor has been named.

A press secretary lasting a single briefing is rare, and it leaves real questions about White House messaging and who steps up to the podium next. For those of us watching from the Suncoast, it’s one more sign of how fast things move in Washington these days.
