A brush fire in Punta Gorda burned nearly 200 acres on Wednesday afternoon. Crews responded to a call of a fire on Oil Well Road around 2 o’clock. It took firefighters more than 4 hours to get it 80 percent contained.

Two homes were in danger but have been protected, according to officials. Two helicopters were also deployed with Bambi buckets to drop water. No evacuations were necessary, and there was no danger to traffic on I-75.
