A Wauchula man will spend 10 years in prison for his part in the 2016 boating death of an Englewood man, Dylan Gonzalez. 21-year old Dalton Reas plead no contest to charges of boating under the influence, in the process avoiding a homicide charge. Police say on June 19, 2016, Gonzalez and a friend were fishing near Placida Harbor when they heard something coming towards them. That something was a 20-foot boat driven by Reis at a high rate of speed in the dark with no running lights on, on plane, in a no-wake zone. Reas has prior alcohol-related convictions- he was charged with DUI in DeSoto County in October of 2014, then arrested in 2015 in Highlands County for DUI and underage drinking.
