A truck driver died in a crash Tuesday morning when two semis collided on Interstate 75.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 27-year old Matthew Simon of Riverview failed to reduce his speed when he rear-ended another semi truck near mile marker 184 around 6am.
Simon’s truck bounced off the rear of the other truck, went off the roadway, and then caught on fire. The other driver, 61-year old Fernando Rivera, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
