Funding has officially been approved for Venice’s Venetian Walk community, an affordable housing complex geared for working families. Nearly a decade ago, phase one of the Venetian Walk -the one for senior citizens- was built, but the affordable housing for families took a back seat thanks to a state lottery system. Finally, the state has allocated funds, in part because of more than $2.25M being put in by Venice, Sarasota, the county, and the Venice Housing Authority. The 5-building, 52-unit complex will start construction next year with 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units. Rent will be determined based on the individual family’s income. It’s expected to be welcoming its first tenants in March of 2020.
