A Venice substitute teacher has filed paperwork to run for the District 5 seat of the Sarasota County School Board. Pamela Gavette will now be challenging Jane Goodwin for that seat. She has two daughters at Pine View School and has previously served on the Pine View Association and the Pine View School School Advisory Council. Gavette said her campaign will focus on issues such as student safety and restoring local control of education. Both Gavette and Goodwin are registered Republicans, although the race is non-partisan.
