The Venice Planning Commission today is set to review and vote on the final draft of Venice’s tree protection ordinance. The ordinance would govern permits to remove plants and trim trees.

The city is staring down an upcoming October 1st deadline- that’s when a tree permit agreement with Sarasota County is set to expire.

The final draft of that ordinance would award $250 per year to property owners who trim and care for so-called ‘Venetian trees’ on their land.
