The city of Venice is one step closer to hiring North Port Police Chief Kevin Vespia to help their police department renew its law enforcement accreditation.
That application for renewal is due a year from now. The city had hoped to bring Vespia on earlier this fall, but contract negotations have been ongoing.
The current contract calls for Vespia to start next month. He would be paid roughly $3600 per month until his retirement from North Port in March. Then, his pay would increase to around $5400 from April 2018 until the end of the fiscal year.
