The city of Venice won’t be buying a property called The Woods. The 151 acres belonging to Neal Communities were annexed into the city in 2008. In 2015, The Woods was rezoned for more than 260 homes over the objections of environmentalists and nearby residents. City Attorney David Persson brought up the idea of purchasing the land during Tuesday’s council meeting as a way to cut back on growth but the council decided not to pursue the matter any further. According to the Herald-Tribune, developer Pat Neal indicated that he would have priced The Woods at more than 80-thousand dollars an acre.
