The football coach at Venice High School has been suspended and the school has been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine for breaking Florida High School Athletic Association policies on recruiting. A report that was released Friday afternoon said John Peacock and three Venice football players illegally communicated with a North Port football player. The goal of the communication was to try and get the North Port player to switch schools and play football for Venice for the upcoming season. Peacock has been suspended for the first three weeks of spring practice. He is not allowed to contact any coaches or players on the Venice team. Also, the players involved will have to go to a seminar to better understand the policies in the FHSAA. The players also have to write a letter of apology to the North Port High School principal.
