The Venice City Council will hold two public meetings to discuss a proposed fire fee. The proposed fee is designed to generate roughly half of the fire department’s budget. The fee was expected to raise about 4.4 million. To help offset the increased cost to taxpayers of both the fire fee and debt service on the new $16 million public safety bond and $18 million road resurfacing bonds, the City Council anticipates lowering the property tax rate to $3.10 every $1,000 of taxable property. The Venice City Council will hold the first of two public hearings on the proposed fire service fee at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Venice City Hall.
