The Venice Fire Department was called to the Chase Bank building at 1320 E. Venice Avenue Friday morning when a strange odor was reported. Fire crews evacuated and secured the building and found a faulty battery that had deteriorated inside one of the bank vaults. The battery was removed and all readings that were taken showed normal.
