At a Tuesday night meeting, the Venice City Council voted to back a number of statewide efforts to improve the environment.

Among them, a resolution to support implementation of a statewide stormwater treatment rule that was abandoned in 2011.

According to the Herald-Tribune, that resolution would require stormwater treatment systems to be at least 80 percent effective in reducing phosphorus and nutrients in stormwater, compared with the currently typical effectiveness of 40 to 45 percent.

North Port already drafted a resolution of support for the plan last month.
