A group called Solar 100 is looking to partner with the city of Venice. The organization is trying to convince local governments across the nation to be completely reliant on renewable energy by the year 2050. The group has made a proposal to the city to start small and go from there- the first step being the use of solar power to power the city’s water utilities department. Venice Councilmember Fred Fraize told ABC-7 while he feels it’s an important initiative, he says people have “short attention spans” when it comes to energy, and that the price tag will scare residents off. The Venice City Council will decide whether to join the program later this month.
