The Venice City Council is considering a formal ban on shark fishing off the Venice Fishing Pier. In a Tuesday meeting, the council expressed concerns over damage to the pier caused by the heavy hooks used to catch sharks as well as fishermen attracting sharks to the pier. As of the moment, the only shark fishing that’s allowed on a public facility is the Venice Fishing Pier and the Sunshine Skyway. Nothing was drafted or voted on yesterday- a final decision will be made at a future meeting.
